July 5, 2016 On the road to Lancaster, PA

July 5, On the Road to Lancaster, PA

We're on the road again, this time to attend the Whiskey Rebellion Festival in Washington Pennsylvania.  The trip is research for a novel I'm writing with Andrew. The title is IRS Nation and the story follows a young protagonist from the future who has been sold to the IRS to cover his parents' debts. He gains inspiration from a history lesson about the 1791 rebellion by Western Pennsylvanian farmers and embarks on a quest to use holographic games to gain his freedom.

The festival sounds like great fun and a good chance to see how themes of taxation without representation play out today.

Along the way we plan to spend a day in Lancaster visiting some sights we missed when a surprise snow storm chased us back east on April 9 of this year.

The trip to Lancaster was uneventful this time. We're testing the Starlink GPS technology in our new Legacy and let it take us on some side trips and return visits to sights we had visited before.  Excluding an incorrect address I entered, Starlink worked OK, but differently from the Garmin  GPS we are used to.  The pros are a large very easy to read screen. The cons may be more about my unfamiliarity than any shortcomings of the unit.  I'll withhold judgment until the end of the trip.

I feel a little wrung out by the trip so I'll keep this post short and plan on a longer one tomorrow. See you then.
